Phaung Daw Oo

Phaung Daw Oo (PDO) is a monastic school created in 1993 by the monk U Nayaka. The school's mission is to provide free and quality education to families who cannot afford to send their children to school.

PDO develops programs from kindergarten to post-baccalaureate level. These programs integrate innovative active teaching methods that leave plenty of room for direct learning by students.

More than 8,000 people are educated free of charge by the school every year. Although it is a monastic school, the school offers a secular curriculum and welcomes children in difficulty from all ethnic groups and religions.


The volunteer will have four mission: 

  • Support for educational activities conducted by teachers and participation in various activities of the center.
  • Teach English / Support the teaching of English
  • Individual Mentoring (individual class from 6.30 pm to 7.30 pm)
  • Extra-curricular activities (dance, arts, sports)
  • Community Development Project

Training:  No specific training is required. A diversity of professional and educational backgrounds can enhance the richness of the group.

Languages:  A good level of English is necessary.

Required qualities

  • Joyful, dynamic, inspiring, taste for the discovery of other cultures .
  • Strong initiative and proactivity, but also patience and listening!
  • Sensitivity to animation activities with children.
  • Resilience and adaptation to different living conditions.
