Community Action for Rural Development (CARD)

Description of the partner

For the past 41 years, Community Action for Rural Development – CARD – has been working in the areas of education, health, livelihood, environment and development in various districts of Tamil Nadu.

CARD is a well-established NGO that responds to various sustainable development challenges, including helping to educate disadvantaged children in rural areas, promoting the livelihoods of disadvantaged rural women and girls, providing health and sanitation facilities in rural areas, and conserving biodiversity.

The mission

• Primary and secondary education: volunteers are supporting teachers at the Sita Rajaram public school in the delivery of various courses.
• Higher education: volunteers are supporting teachers at Sita Rajaram Polytechnic College in the delivery of engineering and technology courses.
• English classes: volunteers support the teaching of conversational English at school and university.
• Tutoring and recreational activities: volunteers support after-school education centres by offering advice and recreational activities.
• Water, sanitation and hygiene: volunteers help to build and maintain public school facilities.

Candidate profile

A strong ability to adapt is required.

Accommodation

Room on campus shared by the two volunteers. Bathroom shared by both volunteers. Kitchen shared by both volunteers.
