Description of the partner

The Fabrique culturelle, located in the heart of a working-class neighbourhood close to a residential area, is a place that welcomes a varied public. The children’s library welcomes local children from disadvantaged backgrounds. The organisation also works in two of the city’s orphanages. What’s more, the Fabrique culturelle is made up of employees and volunteers from a wide range of backgrounds, which helps to ensure a social mix.

The Fabrique culturelle is a cultural centre that hosts a regular programme of performing arts shows. These include dance, theatre, music and film. The centre’s aim is to make culture accessible through its programming and various activities.

The Cultural Centre also has a children’s library and toy library, which welcomes local children three days a week. Alongside its performances, the centre also supports artistic projects and works with schools. Every year, the Fabrique culturelle organises the Rencontres interculturelles du Cirque d’Abidjan.

The Fabrique is also a committed centre, as for the last 4 years it has hosted the “Mon genre, Mon talent” festival in partnership with LGBT associations. This festival gives young artists from the LGBT community the chance to express themselves on stage and see their talents recognised.

The mission

Volunteers will support the Fabrique culturelle in the following activities (depending on their profile and skills):

  • Support for the centre’s programming: Volunteers will work closely with the centre’s cultural mediator in organising artistic performances, logistics and welcoming the public. Volunteers will be asked to support the organisation of the Fabrique’s RICA festival.
  • Support for ongoing projects: Volunteers will help set up projects in schools, orphanages and with artists supported by the centre.
  • Support for the management of the centre: Volunteers help the team to welcome the general public to various events and artists who come to perform.
  • Helping to promote the centre: Volunteers take part in raising the centre’s profile, helping to create content on social networks and developing the centre’s promotional activities.
