Description of the partner

Lifting Hands International is a local organisation that provides humanitarian aid and psychosocial support to refugees in several countries around the world. The Northern Greece programme is based in Serres, where it supports the refugee community by providing educational opportunities, safe spaces and distributing essential food and non-food items.

The mission

Volunteers will support the NGO in one or more activities:

  • Helping to run safe space activities for women (e.g. knitting day, spa day, cinema day), as well as maintaining and managing the space, socialising, security, etc;
  • Support for the running of safe space activities for children aged 2 to 6 (sensory games, role-playing, construction, etc.), as well as maintenance and management of the space, socialisation, safety, etc.;
  • Support in leading artistic and recreational activities (yoga, fitness, art or music classes), as well as managing equipment and space in the free recreational area;
  • Support for English and German language courses (if high enough level and/or previous experience).

Volunteers are usually involved in one or two of these programmes and are also expected to take part in warehouse shifts, logistics shifts and distribution support.

Candidate profile

Training:

No training, specific skills or previous professional or voluntary experience can be required. Motivation is the only criterion that should really be taken into account in the context of Civic Service.

 

Languages :

A good level of English B1/2 is required for this assignment.
