¡Oye Loquitas EN Acción! (Oye LENA) is an educational project based in Curahuasi, Peru, in the heart of the Andes mountains at an altitude of 2,600 metres.

Oye LENA is dedicated to fighting poverty and social inequality by providing access to quality education for all, with a particular focus on children with disabilities. The association promotes values of tolerance, respect and personal development, which it embodies through the use of innovative teaching methods.

Education is seen as the cornerstone of development, and is closely linked to poverty. Oye LENA is therefore committed to offering new life opportunities through its various educational projects to every child, regardless of their differences.

This mission is offered mainly through the Civic Service scheme. In this case, we ask for a minimum commitment of 10 months. It is also possible to volunteer in a “traditional” capacity (without compensation) for a minimum period of 4 months.

The mission
  • Private tutoring, in support of the association’s teachers, for children aged 3 to 12 with disabilities.
  • Helping to organise extra-curricular activities for all the children taken in by the association: manual, artistic and sporting activities, etc.
  • Helping to organise meetings with the children’s parents
  • Participation in educational outings: excursions to the Cconoc thermal baths, trips to Cusco, etc.
  • Creation of digital and multimedia content: photos, videos, editing, etc.
Candidate profile

All profiles are welcome! Above all, we’re looking for people who are motivated by the idea of taking part in a meaningful project and who are highly adaptable.
Minimum level B1 in Spanish
Experience with children welcome!

Accommodation

Type of accommodation: Private and shared rooms (2 to 3 people) in a volunteer house.

Facilities: Bed, wardrobe, desk, equipped kitchen, shared shower, bathroom and washing machine available to volunteers. + unlimited wifi

Cost:

  • 9€/night (shared room) or 11€/night single room (traditional volunteering)
  • 50/month (200 soles) for Civic Service volunteers
