Description of the partner

Action For Wildlife is a non-governmental organisation founded in 2010 that aims to treat and rehabilitate wild animals. AFW has been involved in the care and treatment of wild animals for over 25 years as a member of the Hellenic Wildlife Hospital, founded in 1986, the first wildlife hospital in the Balkans.

The NGO’s mission is to contribute to the dialogue between man and nature, focusing on respect for all forms of life on the planet.

Human activity constantly has an impact on wild animals, whether through indirect and long-term interventions, such as environmental pollution and habitat loss, or direct interventions, such as hunting, poisoning and trapping. Action for Wildlife opposes these activities and seeks to contribute to the protection of wildlife and biodiversity, as well as raising public awareness of environmental issues, with an emphasis on environmental education. Through its activities, Action for Wildlife is trying to fill a gap in society, as there are no other institutions (either public or private) looking after wild animals in northern Greece.

By caring for wild animals, they provide a solution to this huge problem and offer volunteers the opportunity to get up close to a wild animal, help it and learn how getting involved in such activities can bring about positive change in this world.

Main objectives:

  • Rescue exhausted and/or trapped wild animals.
  • To care for wild animals that are exhausted, sick, injured or very young.
  • To rehabilitate animals that are fit to be released back into their natural habitat.
  • Raise public awareness and educate our fellow citizens and children through games and presentations on the environment.
  • Participate in events and festivals aimed at raising public awareness of environmental issues.
The mission
  • Supporting the care centre in the smooth running of the facility: cleaning and maintenance of areas (structure, cages, etc.), preparing food and medicines for the animals (after training and gradually), assisting the vets and other experienced volunteers in the examination room.
  • Support for environmental awareness and ecotourism activities: Raising public awareness, ecotourism and environmental education activities (e.g. guiding visitors, providing information, helping to organise events, festivals, photo exhibitions, etc.).
  • Support for communication activities: Support for the creation of audiovisual content (photos, videos, testimonials, etc.), support for the management of the organisation’s RS and website.
