Description of the partner

ESTEL association is a Senegalese association whose specialized center in Ouakam, Dakar, supports children, teenagers and young adults with intellectual disabilities, and can accommodate around 60 people.

The association’s mission is to defend the rights of people with intellectual disabilities, and to provide them with education (empowerment and socialization), schooling and vocational training, with a view to making them more independent and better integrated into society. Defending their rights also involves lobbying public authorities and raising awareness among the Senegalese population.

The mission is exclusively a Civic Service assignment, lasting 6 to 12 months.

The mission

ESTEL association volunteers carry out the following activities, in support of local team members:

  • Support for the care of disabled children: support for the teaching team in the day-to-day care of the children (autonomy, socialization, school teaching and reading).
  • Support for external activities: support for the socio-professional team in setting up educational outings, family awareness events and professional immersion programs.
  • Helping professionals to set up educational and pedagogical activities: support for professionals to prepare and run activities that correspond to the abilities and individual projects of the young people attending school (art therapy, mosaic, ceramics, screen printing, cooking or market gardening workshops).
  • Participation in the life of the center: Volunteers will take part in a number of meetings with partners and in the life of the association.
Candidate profile

Training :

No training, specific skills, prior professional or volunteer experience can be required. Motivation is the only criterion that must really be taken into account in the context of Civic Service.

Preferred profile :

Profiles with experience working with young people with disabilities are preferred. A diploma in specialized education is a plus.

Accommodation

Accommodation is not covered by the host organization for this assignment. It will therefore be at the volunteer’s charge.
