La Communauté Abel de Grand-Bassam

Description of the partner

Founded in 1982, the Communauté Abel de Grand-Bassam is under the dual agreement of the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Social Affairs, and has as its local partner the diocese of Grand-Bassam. In 2009, the Côte d’Ivoire government granted Communauté Abel the right to establish itself.

Communauté Abel is an expression of the “GRUPPO ABELE” of Turin, an Italian NGO that has been active for several years in the field of juvenile maladjustment, offering services for drug addiction, people living with HIV/AIDS and sex workers. It is active in juvenile prisons, vocational training and integration into the world of work.

The Communauté Abel de Grand-Bassam has three areas of activity: the Abel Professional Educational Centre, the Carrefour Jeunesse, and the Documentation, Research and Training Centre. The association focuses mainly on the training and professional integration of young people.

The mission

The volunteers will support the Abel community in Grand-Bassem in the following activities:

• Support in promoting the association’s activities: The volunteer will support the local team in promoting the association’s activities by creating visual and audiovisual content on social networks.
• Support for ongoing projects: Volunteers will provide support for ongoing projects.
• Support for the agricultural training centre: Volunteers will support the local team in all agricultural training activities. This involves working with the apprentices and the local team in the day-to-day work of watering plants, harvesting and processing agricultural produce, etc.

Candidate profile

No training, specific skills or previous professional or voluntary experience can be required. Motivation is the only criterion that should really be taken into account in the context of Civic Service.

Strong motivation and knowledge of French are essential.
