Description of the partner

The Franco-Senegalese association Liane Sénégal was founded in 2006 in the community of Saint-Louis in a context where women and children who are victims of violence lack support and care. This is reflected in two initiatives: the Women’s Rights Centre and the Children’s Centre.

The Maison des droits des femmes (Women’s Rights Centre) welcomes women who are victims of sexual abuse and domestic violence. The centre, which houses medical staff and staff trained in legal support, provides physical and mental health care. The centre also provides them with legal support by holding clinics. To empower the women, the association has opened a “women’s workshop” where they can learn sewing and, above all, develop an income-generating activity, as the products they create are sold there. They receive 30-50% of each sale. Finally, a crèche has been set up to help the women supported by Liane.

Alongside this project is the Maison des Enfants, which houses 34 children who have been victims of physical and sexual violence. The children receive comprehensive care from the centre, ranging from physical and psychological health to educational support. For example, they take part in extra-curricular activities as well as sporting and creative activities.
