Description of the partner
The city of Guédiawaye, in Senegal, is facing a number of social problems, particularly linked to the absence of adequate infrastructure for the education and development of children, especially those from disadvantaged areas. It is against this backdrop that the NGO Education et Développement de l’Enfant (EDEN) has been working for nearly three decades to improve educational conditions for children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
EDEN NGO’s work is threefold: promoting children’s rights through awareness-raising activities, educating and training children through EDEN’s socio-educational center, and organizing summer camps every year. Children’s participation remains at the heart of EDEN’s activities. Finally, the NGO has also opened a listening and information desk for child victims of violence, in conjunction with the government’s Directorate General for Social Protection.
The mission is exclusively a Civic Service assignment, lasting from 6 to 12 months.
The mission
EDEN volunteers carry out the following activities, in support of local team members:
- Support for activities at the socio-educational center: help in organizing activities such as reading workshops, raising awareness of sustainable development themes, vacation camps during school vacations, etc.
- Support for the animation and organization of awareness-raising and training activities on children’s rights: The aim of these workshops is to raise young people’s awareness of their rights. They will also help the team to develop teaching tools and organize training workshops on children’s rights.
- Helping to promote the listening and information desk for child victims of violence: Volunteers work with the EDEN social worker to promote the listening and information desk for child victims of violence.
- Participation in external representations: Participation in several meetings with the association’s partners to learn more about the organization’s workings and environment.
