Description of the partner

The Foundation for Education and Development (FED) is an association dedicated to ensuring that refugees from Myanmar enjoy their fundamental rights, and to facilitating and guaranteeing access to basic services such as health care, social services, economic opportunities, etc., to facilitate their integration in Thailand.

FED’s actions are organized around 3 poles:

HealthCare’ cluster: The aim of this cluster is to improve migrants’ health knowledge and empower Burmese migrant workers to obtain their right to health through education, access to primary care and emergency services, and support for people with chronic illnesses.

To support this action, workshops and awareness-raising campaigns are set up, as well as health courses for vulnerable young people in migrant learning centers and communities. Support is also given to people living with HIV and to those suffering from chronic illnesses and injuries.

Migrant Development and Rights Protection’ cluster: The aim of this cluster is to protect fundamental human rights while promoting decent working conditions and inclusive development for Burmese migrants in Thailand.

To support this action, legal aid and rights awareness training are provided to prevent and do justice to the rights violations and dangers to which migrants may be exposed.

Education’ cluster: The aim of this cluster is to guarantee access to education for Burmese migrant children in Thailand, in order to overcome poverty, obstacles due to the inability to speak the Thai language, fear of discrimination and the generally difficult living conditions in rural areas.

To support this action, learning centers for migrants offer a Burmese curriculum with extracurricular subjects. Support is also provided for families wishing to enroll their children in a Thai school, in the knowledge that Burmese migrants who have received a Thai education have the chance of a better future in Thailand. For migrants not attending school, Thai and English courses are provided.
