Karamba Agroecological Farm

Description of the partner

GIE Karamba fou Badje or Karamba Agroecological Farm, in Senegal, was created in 2015.

The farm aims to promote local consumption of healthy, nutrient-rich produce in order to reduce imports and the transportation of merchandise. To achieve this, the farm carries out various environmentally-friendly market gardening, arboriculture and beekeeping activities. Much more than a farm, it’s also an educational project. Indeed, the project aims to develop awareness-raising activities with schools, secondary schools and high schools in the surrounding villages, in order to run workshops on the themes of health, agriculture, ecology and respect for the environment. Finally, the structure aims to offer stable jobs to help improve the living conditions of the local population.

The mission is exclusively a Civic Service assignment, lasting from 6 to 12 months.

The mission

Volunteers at the Karamba agroecological farm carry out the following activities, in support of local team members:

• Supporting agricultural activities: setting up and monitoring the harvesting of local market garden crops, creating a composting area and helping to make organic fertilizers and slurries. Volunteers will also take part in discussions on improving the farm’s agricultural activities.
• Support for promotion of the farm: participation in promoting the farm and helping to create content on social media.
• Support for the management of the site: support in welcoming temporary woofing volunteers, as well as in helping to fit out the organization’s living spaces.
• Support for awareness-raising activities: co-construction of educational content on the following themes: environment, agriculture, ecology and eco-gestures.

Candidate profile

Training :

No training, specific skills, professional or volunteer experience can be required. Motivation is the only criterion that must really be taken into account in the context of Civic Service.

Profile :

All profiles are welcome. Profiles with an affinity for market gardening and construction projects are appreciated. The ability to take the initiative and make proposals are good qualities for this mission.

Accommodation

Volunteers are accommodated in a host family with a bedroom separate from the family home, and a private bathroom. Internet is easily accessible via 4G. A high-performance computer is available and can be lent to the volunteer if needed.
